THOR’s 10 COMMANDMENTS of AUDIO


50% OF YOUR FILM IS AUDIO – TREAT IT WITH RESPECT


1) “ADR” & “Fix it in Post” are not in my Vocabulary.

2) Size Does Matter, so I always select the biggest Diaphragm Available.

3) I’ll use Wireless Lavs as long as we shoot with a Security Camera, we all love the sound of rustling clothes or the dialog really doesn’t matter.

4) No, I can’t change the Laws of Physics just for one shot.

5) No, the camera framing in a bathroom should not be the same as for a wide panoramic view of the Himalayas.

6) If my Boom is “in frame” – chances are, the framing is wrong.

7) HD Audio means that the Camera, Monitor, Ballasts, HMI’s, Kino’s, Light Fans, Dimmers, Glider, Crane, Dolly, Generator, Coffee Maker, Traffic, Airplanes, Helicopters, Sirens, Fridges, Bagpipes & the entire Crew (even those standing far away from the action) will be heard. Let’s Kill ‘em all before shooting!

8) If we’ve read it somewhere or learned it in school – Forget it. Instead, try using our Ears, Imagination & Common Sense.

9) If half the Film is Audio, then dedicating a mere 50% of Resources and 50% of budget to the sound department seems not only reasonable but downright logical. I might even be able to work with a little less than that. Lol.

10) Never forget that People will watch Color Bars if the Audio is good.

BTW: My job is to efficiently enhance the audio experience as it pertains to the story-line in the script. Unlike some, I’m not here for my demo reel. If you have issues with any of the above, don’t hire me, make your shots FTS (Forget The Sound) and fix it in post
